Daybreak Toolbars

A Unique Seeding System

There are three major components of the complete Daybreak No-till system. These include the Daybreak Disc Openers for seeding, the Daybreak Air Seeders for seed metering and delivery and finally the Daybreak Toolbar to link these two together. The major feature of the Daybreak Toolbar is its unique double parallelogram lifting system called the Quadlift.

The Quadlift:
  • Is specifically designed to operate with the Daybreak Opener and modern front wheel assist or track tractors.
  • Has front and rear castors to carry the toolbar independent of the tractor angle as there is no linkage toplink used.
  • Allows the toolbar to be merely pulled by the tractor linkage, therefore giving excellent ground following capability as the tractor is not stabilizing the bar.
  • Design allows attachment of a simple A-Frame pull when operated in drawn mode and is simple to swap between linkage and drawn modes.
  • Reduces ground compaction and increases flotation by the use of low ground pressure high flotation and aligning the wheels down the control traffic lines.

  • Row spacings, wheel centers, etc can be changed at any time.
  • Only caps or folding wing pivots are welded to the main beam.
  • Clamps, bridges, spacers, folding mechanisms and wheel frames are bolted together to prevent cracking due to flexing.
  • Inbuilt end tow capability. It is a simple operation to attach an end tow.
  • All wheels can be pinned as well as castor.

The toolbar system has been designed for use in conjunction with modern disc opener planters, especially the Daybreak Disc Opener. Experience has shown that both single and double disc openers all require a controllable toolbar for more successful operation.

Adaptability for disc openers:
  • The main beam has a minimum under frame height of 650 mm and a maximum that rises to 1350 mm.
  • Large adjusting screw on each of the wheel units used in conjunction with the hydraulic cylinder depth stops provide infinite height and angle adjustment in the toolbars operating range. A Daybreak Toolbar is very solid in construction. It was designed specifically to have low maintenance in all conditions.
  • All pivots and axles have oil filled high-impact nylon bushes, hardened bushes or sealed bearings.
  • The castor wheel kingpins and the wheel axle are 3” (76.4 mm) high tensile. The folding wing pivot pins are 2 ¼” (57.15 mm) 4140 high tensile.
  • All standard toolbars have three beams in the center section.
    • Main beam: 200 x 200 x 9 mm? Carries the disc openers
    • Bridge beam: 200 x 200 x 9 mm
    • Beam directly above main beam
    • Headstock beam: 125 x 125 x 9 mm In front of main beam, linkage points are welded to it.
    • Lift assist beam: 200 x 200 x 9 mm? At rear of machines - carries airseeder pull, rear castor wheels.
  • The cylinder clevis pins are locked, greaseable 1-¼” high tensile pins with hardened bush.

With the development of high-speed conservation tillage implements, airseeders have needed to increase in delivery capacity.

Over the last decade, Daybreak Equipment has been developing an airseeder system that can deliver large quantities of product accurately and consistently.

The Daybreak twin roller system has many features that differ to peg or cog tooth systems. The most important is positive displacement of grain into the air stream.

  • The rollers support the grain and as they counter rotate, carry the product under a cut off plate, depositing the product into the air stream.
  • A hat sits inside the bin above the meter to carry the bulk weight of the seed, thus letting a constant weight and flow of grain pass through to the rollers irrespective quantity of product in the bin.
  • To resist corrosion the meter housing and all components including bearings are made of stainless steel or polyurethane.
  • There are two roller styles that each have a different groove pattern to suit the application of a wide range of products.

The hydraulic drive system has been developed to render the meter free of adjustments. A specialised low speed Durolla motor is direct coupled to the meter.

  • The meter has a range of 2-150 revolutions per minute.
  • A state of the art computer controller reads ground speed by accessing tractor radar or by a wheel sensor. It then controls the hydraulic motor speed through a proportional hydraulic control valve. This system provides variable rates as a result of yield mapping. It also provides instant sowing rate changes.

The bins are fabricated from zinc sheeting, with stainless steel bins available for use with liquid fertilisers. The bins are designed with full curve sections wherever possible. This design increases strength and improves filling capability.

Daybreak Equipment Airseeders are manufactured to be operated in three types of mounting positions. These include the 1) trailing airseeder, 2) front or side mounted airseeder mounted directly onto the tractor and 3) implement mounted.

An Exceptional Zero-Till Opener

The Daybreak Disc Opener truly is agriculture’s premier single disc opener.  This opener can match and surpass any other opener currently in production in any given field condition. The Daybreak has many advantages including:

  • Ultra-low soil disturbance because of a large disc at a fine angle
  • Superior penetration as a result of the large disc and mass.
  • The large diameter disc and patented closing system provide excellent seed placement and wet, sticky soil capability.
  • The robust nature of the Daybreak Disc Opener helps it ‘groove’ in firm, heavy soils while also able to handle heavy blankets of rocks and rocky outcrops.

The Daybreak is the only opener that uses the gauge wheel to close the slot. The press wheel takes no major part in returning the soil to the slot. The press wheel’s job is merely to ‘pat down’ the already returned soil and assist in slot closure.

  • The gauge wheel returns the soil to the slot without inversion, resulting in the best possible seed to moist soil contact, without mixing of dry topsoil.
  • A result of this is excellent seed placement without excess down pressure, soil disturbance, moisture loss and smearing common to single disc openers. For this reason the Daybreak Disc Opener is a very fine applicator of Anhydrous Ammonia.

The Daybreak double shooting system allows distinct separation of levels of seed and fertilizer. Seed or fertilizer can accurately be positioned mm’s from the surface at normal operating speeds.

  • Seed or fertilizer distributed by the double shoot tube is caught at the required level by the wave of returning soil. This level can be infinitely adjusted by the height and angle of the double shoot tube.
  • Consistent planting is achieved by preventing loose soil from disrupting the seed by a patented rotary shield disc. This disc can also be used to remove loose top soil when deep sowing.

The Daybreak is very easy to adjust. Ease of adjustment and maintenance were key factors incorporated during the design and testing period of the disc opener. A few of the many features resulting from this include:

  • All pivots and axles are tapered roller bearings or oil filled high-impact nylon bushes.
  • Bolts, bearings and seals are standard automotive or agricultural sizes available from local stockists
  • Main down pressure, seeding depth, press wheel down pressure can all be adjusted without tools.

Disc Openers– Cane Opener

An Exceptional Zero-Till Opener

The Daybreak Cane Opener is the big brother to our standard single disc, the Daybreak Disc Opener. It is basically a ‘scaled up’ unit with the enhanced features especially the ability to handle large amounts of fresh residue. This unit has the same advantages over the competition as the Daybreak Disc Opener. These include:

  • Low disturbance
  • Superior penetration
  • Wet soil capability
  • Heavy residue handling

Motivation for design was to create a planter that would cater specifically for the needs of the zero-till cane farmer. Several factors influenced design. These include:

  • Application of large quantities of organic fertilizer
  • Ability to plant return crops into large amounts of freshly cut, undisturbed sugar cane residue.

Duodec Disc Opener

In the 10 years of the Daybreak Disc Openers beneficial developments have been made in Single Disc Opener technology.

The Daybreak DUODEC MkII is the collimation of the tireless pursuit of the “Perfect Planter”. These improvements are part of a methodical progression of development.

 

Key features of the DUODEC over previous models:
  • Improved clearance in the area behind the seed tube. This results in much greater stubble and mud handling as material can flow through without hanging up on the unit.

    Quadrant and press wheel pivots feature LARGE tapered roller bearings and permanent seals. These pivots DO NOT REQUIRE GREASING.
  • Seed tube mounting strength increased and adjustment method simplified.
  • Seed boot blade in manufactures from disc material, features Tungsten tiles and solid Tungsten hard facing. The DUODEC MkII narrow seedboot (Fert, wheat, canola etc) is designed to greatly increase service life.
  • Fixed blade, Tungsten mud scrapers are fixed in locations that greatly minimise mud build up.
  • Optional: On-the-go, variable hydraulic down pressure with a range from 10 - 500kg. Adoption of this technology is a great addition to zero-till disc openers.
  • Future production model DUODEC MK II's will feature Mechanical Seals in the Main disc hub, gauge and press wheel hubs.
  • In house produced Main Disc. These discs are alloy steel, remain flatter during manufacture, are more rigid and have a smoother surface finish that performs better in sticky conditions.
  • Greater range of press wheel spring pressure.

Chemical SeederChemical Seeder

  • Minimal soil throw for canola, sorghum, and cereals with incompatible chemicals. Soil is returned from disc side by gauge wheel.
  • Increased soil movement for chemical incorporation, soil is 'squeezed' out from both sides of the gauge wheel AND a throw of loose top soil from seed boot blade also covers the interrow. This results in chemically clear seed furrow and incorporation across the interrow.
  • With the Daybreak system, split level sowing is achieved by introducing seed or fertiliser at different heights at the point of closure of the returning soil. The placement of the product can be varied from the bottom, to just under the top of the furrow by trapping it in the returning soil.

The Daybreak Trailer Mounted Soil Sampler is designed to be a self contained testing unit, able to be towed by any appropriate vehicle.

The sampler includes a 1.5 M stroke hydraulic cylinder which is hydraulically elevated to it’s working position.

The system is powered by a 12HP petrol Honda motor which drives a 12cc hydraulic pump.

The hydraulic pump provides adequate power for lifting and lowering the unit, power to drive the probe into the ground and providing peer to the automatic jack hammer

The unit is controlled by hydraulic spool valves, one located at the rear, which operates the mast. The second hydraulic spool valve is located on the side of the mast and operates the vertical movement of the probe.
